Very sad. Check water parameters and try to find out what happened for the rest of us keeping Goonches. Something killed them but not the other fish. Maybe water temps? They need a lot of O2. Warmer water just doesn't hold a lot of O2. Could be a combination of slightly warmer water and something, food, dead plants, rotting and sucking up O2 killing the more sensitive fish.
Any info you have will be helpful.
I feel ur pain more than most...i had 4 flawless goonch for around a year and a half (raised from 4" to 16-20")...one was cannibolised so i moved them to a larger tank in hopes to give them a better life and they went down almost immediatly. I have been questioning my fish keeping abilities ever since. You truely need a "full proof" system to keep these guys. Theres absolutly no room for error and u now know theres absolutly no other fish comparable to keep lol... i literally have not bought a catfish in 9-12 months since i lost mine. I have been researching, upgrading filtration, and tweaking equipment ever since to provide the best water quality one can. Im not setting up auto drip systems on all 26 tanks i have to provide pristene conditions for everybody. I wanted to lay face down on a busy street when my group started to go south, but chin up my man u kept urs longer than alot of people do so thats sayin something. Gotta strive for the best now and start creating a full proof system for when they come around again. I know the heart ache all too well tho. Happens to the best of us, all part of the hobby. Live, learn, and make it better![]()

I always over filter everything! I am so careful with my water and temperaturesall perameters im strict. The water was 75 degrees. Filters all working powerheads everything was good. The major change was when I noticed it the water was up at 82 which is why I feel it was some surge or some malfuntion. Rob and I did lots of research on these guys. I know their care all too well. It was something else. Something wasnt right. Especially how the temp jumped.

I still think that you had a power outage that caused your dissolved o2 levels to crash because the water wasn't being circulated. The other fish would be fine in those conditions, but the devils wouldn't be able to handle it.
