MY DIY christmas LED lighting, project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LED light doesn't really diffuse thru the water like flourescents, so cutting the board down will probably leave the edges of the tank dark. Even if you pack all of the original lights onto the smaller board, you will just make the smaller area brighter. So, the bigger the board, the better if you want even lighting. Also, the big board will leave you room to add more blue moonlight LEDs or color-changing LED's later.

EDIT: Yes, packing them all onto a smaller area will increase penetration, but decrease coverage...

Hey guys, new here...I figured I'd finally make a post.

I'm planing on doing a diy LED lid for my tank and I found these on ebay...at $1.00 per a string of 100 lights, you can't go wrong. Even if they are cheap chinese crap, I don't even know what size and wattage they are (still waiting on them to email me the specs). But 2,000 diodes for 20bux why not give it a try...

Just A suggestion because they're omni leds and are sunlight bright not to mention it cuts down on the amount of wiring

OP is on the right track I think. Just add more LEDs until its bright enough. Cathode would be cool for moonlights...

Actually those are the ones I ordered, not from that guy though. I paid 7$ shipped for 100leds @ 32ft. They light up well, but to go through water is a different story, if only my tank was 1' deep.

This idea is awesome i have a 6ft tank and the luminaire lets so much light into the room and my wife hates it! One question though would plants like Swords live?
