My DIY Fish Trap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't have any fish traps at the moment. However, I made some crawfish traps and I wouldn't be surprised if they pull double duty. They are both in the St. Johns River right now for their first soak.

Here are the plans that I drew up to see if I could get all the parts from my 3x5 sheet of hardware cloth. I altered the size and almost was able to get three traps from it.

The pill bottle turned out to be a flop for a bait can. After I tossed the trap out several times for good positioning, the top came off and dumped the bait in the water. I was able to save some of it and put it back in, but I fed some fish that didn't need feeding.

The fish food can is a lot better since it has a screw on lid.

:banhim: The amount of toxins released into the atmosphere in the making of this could have killed a 4th world country and all of their fish!!!! :banhim:
.

So what is a 4th world country? Is that like...New Jersey?

I wouldn't touch that one! :grinno: (:grinyes:)

The sturgeon are jumping in the Suwannee River, the news has had some great videos. I'd love to keep some fingerling's and juveniles. The Mote marine Lab. in Sarasota here has a sturgeon program http://isurus.mote.org/research/card/sturgeonaquaculture.phtml
now if I could just sneak in the back door...Dressing up like a pelican didn't work so don't suggest it (bad memories).

Hey! Why is it every time I look at your address with google satillite it points to a different ice cream store? :D

I heard about them in the Suwannee. There is a guy north of you that sells sturgeons on eBay every now and then. You may have to wait till the end of the year for new ones to be big enough to sell.

And for one of those twin studies that I had been in, they put a satillite tracking thingy in me... I guess to track the migration patterns of twins.

And that umbrella net idea might be usefull next month. I am going to Canada or Minnessota for another one of those extended camping trips. Traps aren't allowed and I have been looking at ways to bend the rules.
