My electric blue acaras just laid eggs

The mortality rate isn't an issue but they do grow about half as fast as regular blue acaras. I think some outcrossing is in order to see if you can get them a little hardier.

Whatever gene manipulation they do to get the fish to have the electric coloration must also come with some form of slow growth gene. All the electrics grow at a fraction of what their standard counterparts do.

My pair bred a couple of months back. They raised the fry until about the 2nd week, and then the mother decided to eat them all. It was their first batch so I half expected it. Since then the temperature has dropped in the house so they haven't spawned again.

Good luck!

Funny you said that. In week 3 I had to remove the female. The male beat the s... out of her and keep her in the corner. So I presumed that it was because she was trying to eat the fry

If you breed two EB acara together they are all EB. If you breed an EB to a regular blue, they will all be regular blue with a recessive EB gene. Crossing those fry will get you a mix of EB and regular acaras.
