My First Discus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice setup Joey.....:D
Its an albino leopard cross of some sort.
I think you'll be fine with the discus in there but they'll be much happier if the temp is around 80, 84 if possible. Just pay attention daily, if you notice the discus not eating or fins clamped then its stressing out. Since this guy is an albino, he won't show any stress bars.
I think a few more large discus would look sweet in there......:naughty:

YOur discus will do great! My brother got a lot of guff for keeping dats w/ discus. He also had em w/ a jar and a gatf. Well to say the least the discus are still alive and kickn strong. R1 you've got the skills to make this combo work. Discus are much hardier than people think.....wild or captive bred.

"A dead discus".... lol... good one..

You do know that times have changed with Discus right? They have captive bred Discus that's been raised in water that's in the mid-high 7's PH...

This one particular one must be an oddball because at feeding it's more aggressive than my Bahia...

Thanks for wishing me luck...also thanks for being blunt. It's good to voice your opinion.

Also, for anyone who may have an opposite opinion, please share your thought's. After all, we are in a discussion forum and I have thick skin. I don't cry at sunsets so don't refrain from being honest.

YOU SURE "J? you cant handle the TRUTH, ahahahahahaah:ROFL:

Thanks, I don't shy away from challenges and always like to try and experience it for myself.

People will always have their own opinion which I can respect. But I can't respect the ones with opinions that's never tried. I'll listen but it doesn't mean I'll follow.

It's like people who offer advise on marriage, yet they've never been married. People advise about kids, yet they have none. I'm open to criticism and judgment, however don't base theories without facts.

People will say, "You have to have soft water", "that Discus will not be able to compete with food", etc..etc...

However, well known breeders have bred in PH's in mid and high 7's?. My theory about PH's is as long as you keep your PH stable it's not an issue. You'll have more problems mimicking it's natural environment by trying to keep the PH that differs out your tap. My facts on this is being able to grow PBASS from 2" to 15+" in 7.8PH...

Also, how the hell in the world will a captive bred Discus that is born in PH in let's say 7.5-7.8 know anything about soft water...lol

As for food. My theory is, fish will aggresively eat provided they are healthy to begin with. People need to look and watch what they buy. If it's healthy it will eat regardless of what you have in there. My facts are, more fish in the tank, more sense of urgency to eat because of competition. How is one going to tell me that Discus can't eat when I see it in front of me that it's the first one up front and center along with the altums to eat?

I can handle the truth. You told me about your surgery at the transgender institute yet I still accept you as a friend.

I can't take a full tank shot...I would just have to black out certain spots ;)

nice pick up. dang this tank setup is tight! just looking at it just make me feel like staying in the hobby.
