Well, i was watching some youtube videos of some odd setups, and saw some people having great success having a single Piranha in a Cichlid setup. Thought it might be a fun challenge to tryballinouttacntrol;3652792; said:What made you decide to throw a piranha into the mix?
I'm pretty sure they are. Atleast, Wikipedia along with my LFS classifies them as Cichlids. *Shrugs* Yes i add a bit of salt once a month after my monthly huge water change.Diogenes;3652814; said:interesting tank.
I don't think archerfish are technically cichlids. Are you keeping salt in there? They're brackish...
I sure hope not! Right now, i can't really tell the fin nipping apart, from who does it to who, since my catfish is a real SOB at night. I am going to sell him to a LFS this week, and then i'll hopefully be able to see exactly what's going on in the tank a bit clearer by then.pyromaniac;3652820; said:the fin nipping by the piranha will get worse soon.
then chunks of flesh will start to go missing and then fish go missing ....! all the best mate/

I realise that, but my experiment is to see whether or not it will actually go in that direction when the Piranha is not schooling like it normally would while hunting/feeding.Diogenes;3654224; said:not that it matters, but cichlidae is a family. As far as I can tell archer's are in their own family Toxotidae. Just FYI...Also while I'm on a tangent, it's probably best that someone tell you that cichlids are a natural prey fish for piranha species. Once that little guy gets bigger his roomies are gonna start looking like lunch. Starts with the fins...

Only time will tell i guess. Thanks though for your cents![]()
