MY FIRST SUMP COMPLETE!

Chompers, i have bad news. I was trying to slam everything together and the end of one of the thicker white pipes broke! the end with the grey nozzle snapped off. sigh. I always break everything.

And Home depot and lowes dont sell these exact pieces. what should i do? order online?
 
MY whole sump turned bright orange because of rust i believe so i had to dump out everything and clean the whole thing over again! only the silicone holding the media basket part is orange but i think its only the color

And i switched all the metal ones, threw em out and replaced with orange plastic looking ones
 
I have to leave right now and can't give a good explanation but one should be here in the morning.

That tube was thread sealant or known as 'pipe dope'. Clean it off the best you can. It is going to be a gooy mess so have plenty of paper towels handy.

I bought all the parts at Lowes except the 1.5" pipe. That is furniture quality pipe since it was going in your room.

The top tee is 1.5 x 1 x 1.5 inches.

It can be replicated using a standard 1.5 inch tee with a 1.5 x 1 inch reducer bushing.

To connect the gray hose barb, you will need a male threaded fitting.

Take the broken parts with you and track down a guy that works there. He will get the right parts for you and he will get you the proper glue and cleaner.

Btw, Why not the metal scrubbies? Do they cause rust? because now after leaving water in the sump for a few days, it turned bright orange - something that looks like you can drink like kool-aid.

:eek: :eek: You have exactly what the container says. "Pipe Joint Compound"
It's use to seal metal threaded pipe connections (galvanized water lines, gas lines, etc.)
Not good for you in this case. Get PVC cleaner and cement and try again.
The cans will clearly be labeled PVC cement, and PVC cleaner.

BTW, metal will rust, and if your metal "scrubbies" are SOS brand, they could be impregnated with soap. :WHOA: :WHOA: :popcorn: :popcorn: :popcorn:

Not only will metal rust but you also included some copper scrubbies as well. Copper and other heavy metals is very poisonus to your fish.
 
I once had some rust in a salt tank... it kept on appearing and it turned out some internal parts of my pump werent suitable for salt water!

While copper is bad for invertabrates, I actually throw copper scourers (and pennies) into my sumps to help control white spot and velvet.
