My fish are dying and I don't know why!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You have to be showing some nitrates, doesnt make any sense to have 0ppm! unless u have 1 fry in a 10gal alone! Sounds like another fish is bullying the rest and possibly killing! Bullying among tank mates also causes stress. What is ur stock?

The stock is 2 platinum jds at 1.5", 1 peacock eel, 1 bgjd at 2" a trio of guppies, 1 geo pellegrini at 3" and 4 marbled crays. This tank is in my bedroom so I watch it a lot and there is no aggression. Flashing means they are rubbing on the rocks and stuff.

Have you added any new fish recently? Any windex, bug spray or other chemicals used nearby?

Many mysterious deaths can be traced back to chemicals used in the home.
Are there tank lids?
Aerosol such as hairspray, glass cleaner and the worst offender; flying insect killer will cause flashing and after not too long death.
do you have a tank in another room to move some mature media to and transfer one or two fish to see if their condition improves?

Thanks and let us know

I'll try moving the remaining platinum jds and see how they do. I really don't think it is chemical related since I don't use windex on my tanks, bug stuff or hairspray for my hair. It certainly won't hurt to try and move some to a different room. I really hope they stop dying though, it really sucks :( Oh and the tank does have a lid on it. I also have another 10 gallon tank set up right next to this tank with one of my other geos who is holding at the moment and she is totally fine. So frustrating!

checked for stray electrical current?

do you have any copper water piping (or other metals) in well/water system? it would be flushed out when U R home running water all the time, but contaminants add up in system during non-use.

No stray electrical current but I'll have to check on the copper pipes. I don't think we have copper pipes but I'm not sure.
