That is so cool. I wish I could do something like that. So are you doing this all by yourself? And if so how many hours have you put into it so far?

i also had a hand from a mate who helped barrow concrete:headbang2
id say all in all at a very rough guess 80hrs but thats not including running round for materials and other bits and bobs. its hard to say because ive been doing bits and bobs since march this year:WHOA::eek:

Nice project mate, What size timber you useing to build the rack for the 5 by 2's, is that 2 by 1 you used on the rest?

I use to live on Marton rd.... up the 'Boro!

cheers mate, ive used 3x2 dressed gear from B+Q at £2 a length for all stands.i was wanting to use 4x2 for the 5 fters but was promised that it is sufficient to hold it:confused: so fingers crossed that it is,if it isnt there one less cristmas card to write:ROFL:

That's dressed CLS - metric version of 3"x2" - on the racks. B&Q do it pretty cheap too. UK industry standard for framing work / stud walls. Hard to tell what size timber is holdin up the 5 footers, but it DOES look smaller than CLS...?? Odd.

your right its CLS,the 5 fters are the same it just looks smaller in the pics.before i fill them up do u think its big enough to hold??and your right its only £1.98 for a 2.4m length if u buy 5 or more!!!!

Nice work by the way, Northeastcichlids! Sorry, should have posted that first!
I know it's way too late to do anything about it, but did you insulate under your concrete floor?
We usually use polystyrene sheets before we screed the concrete on top. Makes a massive difference to the temperature - floor never gets cold.
And what DID you use for the 5 footers stands?

no probs mate, and i never did mate but i did put some visqueen under to stop the damp coming through? i dont know if it helps tho??at least i know for the future lol, will learn by my mistakes:(i suppose if it really affects me i could put a wooden floor in with tanalised joists with poly underneath;)

I dont know if your going to paint your stands but I would. I also raise my stand legs off the ground in case there is ever any standing water on the ground. I use the white plastic chop boards which are easy to cut to size.

thanks for the tip, never thought of that:screwy:i think its too late now because the are tight down to the ground:(im either going to varnish the racks or gloss them white, varnish will be quicker but i think gloss would look better:confused:willl have to think about it

I just use plastic packers which u can get from 1mm - 6mm - (building supplies). If you don't have some already, ask around anywhere there's a joiner at work. They're bound to have some they can give you. That's where I get mine - off site!
I've got them under my timber diy stand to keep it raised from spillages, which happen every other day!

ive just thrown 100's away cos i had a massive sort out but im still hoarding gear that i wont use again lol. wish id of thought more about it!!! i can usually get the CLS treated in a wood yard i use but the tanks been down so just bought it from B+Q because it closer.........and cheaper!!
