My fish room renovation project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ha, well the bichir I posted prior was sold to me as an ornate bichir but now I think its a del. I have since bought a poly palmas and a true ornate to go with it. I didn't have time to upload the pics to photo bucket before leaving this morning I hope to post them this afternoon and start an ID thread to find out who is what.

I just got the bichir types sorted, the first one posted was actually a delhezi

This next new one is a sengal:

This last guy is actually an ornate:

And then one more member who I've had for a long time is this very unique "flying fox" I've never seen another one with his coloration, I'll start an ID thread to confirm what he is:

Ok the picture doesn't capture it well but he has black fins with white tips. A black bar on his side that first brown strip is actually more of a shinney irridescent red stripe and the rest of his body is tinted an amber color with a pale off-white tummy.

FYI My move is taking longer than anticipated. So I'm gonna jump the gun and setup the 6 20 gallon tanks I have as fry tanks where I currently live and maybe rearrange tank mates again so that I can start breeding. I think I'm gonna have breeding red empress, z-rock to start since they are spawning like crazy but I plan on doing several other peacocks, Eureka, Taiwan, placidio chromis. I don't have properly aged and or sized breeding populations though. I have about 5 or 6 tetracephalis to breed but I don't know how to sex them and have no experience breeding such a volatile fish. My dubosi will be breeding inside the year and hopefully so will my demasoni. I wanted to do OB peacocks originally but I'm deffinately hesitant now. I bought over a dozen fry with the rest of my current breeding stock and only 1-2 are shaping up to look anything like my prior adult male I had. Any way I plan to take more pics of the 6 20 gallon tanks and also detail the construction of the 100 gallon double stands. Just letting you guys know this thread is still going as its definitely an ongoing project.

I am back as of last week got my first shipment of fish last week. Hoping to get more soon and maybe a couple more tanks up and running.

holy cow dude...this was a lot of work!

The basement was several months of work the tank stands where built later in fall so the weather was a limiting factor on when I could work on them outside. After we resolved the design could handle the weight of the two 100 gallon tanks and we worked out clearences it took about 2 weekends worth of work to cut/sand/stain/assemble them. Knowing how I would do it all now I could have easily shaved some time off here and there but really you don't want to rush or else you end up with goofiness and tilted walls and stuff.
