My fish room renovation project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wonderful setups.

Was wondering if you can tell me about the type of wood/bolts/design you used for your 100 gallons on top of each other?

I am trying to set up two 100 gallons and am trying to use a simple and practical design.

Yours top the list! :)

I'll try to document that and my new fry tank setups when I get home tonight. So maybe there will be a update on here in one or two days.

Looks like you have a major project going. To post pics from Photobucket just click on "IMG Code" for each picture, and then paste it to your MFK thread. Before posting them, you might want to resize them to "large", which makes them easier to view. (Anything larger forces the reader to scroll sideways to view and read the thread.)

Thanks, the random stones where landscaping stones or field rock that I've picked up for free over the years with help from friends. The slate looking stuff in the upper tank is limestone slag a friend of mine got from his job, I've been watching the PH and hardness so I don't think its leaching anything into the tank.

I think the only thing I pay for is that Holly rock you saw in some of the other tanks. Expensive!

So here is the joints on my tank stands since 123456 asked how I put it all together. The 100 gallon dual stack is two identical bases secured with 6 lag bolts: 2 - 8 inch lag bolts and 4 - 4 inch lag bolts. We pre-drilled the holes, here are the pictures:

Hope these photos help a little with the construction. I've noticed several breeders and aquarium stores use the same joint. The stands are finished yet we will have strip lights mounted when they are done.

here are the breeder stacks.

Here are the joints if 123456 wants to know how they work:

We are waiting for the tanks to stabilize in temp and finish cycling then we'll bring the holding females over. I'm really excited I've never done any of this stuff before, just been reading about it for years on places like monsterfishkeepers.

Thanks for the pics. They will help a lot.

Do you know what type of wood you used? How long are your 100g tanks?

It looks like such a simple design, but if it's holding up for you, then I might just do the same. :)
