My fish room renovation project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well The good times are on hold. After having a major disease sweep through my 3 100 gallon tanks I've lost over 1/3 of my breeding stock. All my good red empress males are dead only 2 females remain. Most of my OB peacocks are dead. So many losses its hard to recount them all but it was over 33 last I checked with my breeding stock being about 90 that is a huge hit. Ok let me count

7 OB peacocks
4 zrock
5 red empress
3 shell dwellers
2 geophagus
1 horei
1 Hap obliquidens
6 Thick skin haps
1 taiwan reef
1 miscellaneous mbuna
1 flying fox

I haven't done a total head count that is just what I can recall right now. I need to update my stock spreadsheet.

The disease is gone now though it seems. And that is good because I have good news.

I OWN A HOUSE!!!!!

I've started work on the house and might be able to move fish there in the next couple months after that I want Monster Display tanks!!! If you guys know anyone who does good affordable custom aquarium work in the chicagoland area let me know. I'm thinking 3 monster display tanks, 2-300 gallon tanks and 1-800 gallon tank. Something like that.

I have pictures but between the disease and buying the house I haven't had time to upload them and won't anytime soon. Anyway thanks to the community that helped me through the disease and thanks to everyone who has helped me in my various other threads this far bring everything together. I've always love fish but I can firmly say I wouldn't have done half of what I have accomplished without this community.

Pimped out living quarters. What are you gonna do since you're outta school?

I've gone and bought a house and now begins the new fish room/lounge in my basement.

Sorry for your loss great room can not wait for your new house and the thread on the building of the fish room.

Thanks for the sympathy. Really stinks to grow out breeding stock for a year and loose over half of it. While we had 100 fish to start only about 50-60 were for breeding the rest was just hobby stock.

The basement in my new house will be getting double French doors for no other fact that to allow me to assemble amazingly large aquariums in the basement.

Sorry to hear about your losses.

If you're looking to move some of your fry or replenish your breeding stock you should connect with GCCA (Greater Chicago Cichlid Association). They host swaps and auctions fall through spring.

GCCA is where I probably got 2/3 of my fish. Its an amazing trade show for sure. I'm also a huge fan of the Lee Watsons reptile swap but that has relocated and changed names. It is a great place to get monster drift wood.

Thanks for the post... GREAT Looking fish room and fish. Keep up the good work. =]
