My fish room renovation project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow some great awesome project.......... congradulations.. looking forward to watching this thread.

Well bought that 265, been waiting for the contract work on my foundation to start, and eventually conclude so we stopped waiting to setup the entertainment center, flipped the 265 over and put my 60 inch plasma ontop of the bottom along with stereo components. Its surprising how many people think we bought a giant glass table, lol. I will try to add some picks to this thread tonight since I don't have any real plans.

I can't believe it I had about 500 gallons going in my parents basement and now I've got over 1,500 gallons of aquariums waiting to setup. I'm actually afraid of the fish nerd I will become! I'm excited to finally plumb a giant sump its been a dream in the works since the very beginning I've got like 200 dollars in fittings from a plan that never came together this will be epic!!!

A NEW CHAPTER

At long last, back by popular demand... those photos of my fry I promised months ago!!!

So I think there are about 50 red empress in that tank, I counted 55 when we moved em from the old basement to the new house and we sold 5.
There is also 7 demasoni in the photo we had already sold the other 8.

Here are some fry I purchased over a year ago that have been growing out:

That tank is a pair of convicts, 4 frontosa burundi, 10 duboisi, 1 OB peacock, one miscellaneous peacock, and 3 breeding demasoni

My house, and future fish shrine:

So you don't think I'm daddy Warbucks its a fake stone veneer, and its really falling apart.

As for the empty tanks:

Here is how one should utilize an empty monster tank:

The 60 inch plasma feels small when sitting atop this monster!

My new bed room(far from finished):

Half of my fish are still in my moms basement, and there are tons of smaller tanks and some new sumps I've acquired in my basement.

Disclaimer, this house is practically under-construction we got contractors ripping up the concrete patio tomorrow to prep for the foundation work. I can't wait to share with you guys the new fish room as its coming together.

Ok time for a more pertinent thread. Sorry for side tracking with all the house photos last entry. I've started a thread on pre-emptive treatment of internal parasites because I acquired allot of cichlids last week. They all came with sunken stomachs and damaged gills. At any rate they have still some amazing color and some less common breeds where in the mix. Assuming they all recover and make it through the quarentine process in our basement here their purchase will have doubled the breeding stock I've got. Check out my ghetto setup:

At any rate I've got a couple other threads going with regards to preparations for the FISHROOM going up in the next six months here(really the basement construction/renovation/repairs is the only thing slowing me and my friends down):

Best submerged bio-media:

My sump design and glass thickness:

Any input you guys have on those threads would be really helpful. Thanks so much. I will start a new DIY thread when this project gets steam, until then I'll continue posting here.

Goofy thing is those awnings are tearing up the facade on the side of the house. I'm positive in the next year I'll have to take them off and patch some of the facades so as to prevent leaks. They are also all medal and have rust runs running down the side of the house. They look decent in the pics but not so much in person. Thanks though :)

The 55 gallon tank looks like its about to cycle, pretty early (just over a week after being setup) and the filter are broken in as well so this is weird. At any rate I'm gonna bounce some fish around tonight and do water changes. All the younger fish look to have handled the move really well while the more mature fish look more upset and put off by the relocation. They are all eating well at any rate. Its apparent the fish had more than a lack of food, many fish look like they have some gill curl and where stunted at some point in development.

maybe somehow you can salvage them...paint them etc.. the canvas looks in good shape...but i know exactly what you mean... we had to take down our new gutters because it caused leaks from ice buildup.. just because it looks better not always for the best.

OH THE GUTTERS! I can't even get my roof properly worked on till they finish the foundation work because they are gonna jack the house up and I don't want it unsettling a new roof so that gets tackled after. I often forget I have gutters with the steep nature of that roof water kind shoots off in a projectile fashion circumventing my delicate aquaducts, :nilly:
