My fishlist for my 125 Central American Aggresive Biotope

A Jag is far more aggressive and territorial than your JDs and Green Terror combined. It also will get larger than them. As it grows it will require more tank space and Jags know how to take the space they need. If you want peace in the tank, don't add a Jag. Your tank is not really big enough for the quantity and size of fish that you have and want. You should try to narrow down your list to a few large cichlids or get a bigger tank. I have seen people with overstocked tanks with some large cichlids. They pull it off by having too many fish for any to claim territory and not being able to single out one fish to harrass. Most of these kind of tanks that I've seen also don't have any decor at all, just a big and crowded tank full of cichlids. Not my cup of tea but to each his own.

I know what you mean by Jacks giving you problems. Its the exact thing im encountering. I wouldn't put a jag in there it would get too big and start destroying the others. They need more space with that many fish. You might be able to get by with an RTM or a freddy. They don't get as big. They are like mini jags if you can call 12 inches mini. Only problem is at that point now they might be fine with the GT and Jacks but the others might not be fine with them anymore.

Cichlids are so weird. Most people say put the same aggressive type in the same tanks BUT sometimes that doesn't work. My jacks hate my oscars but are fine with the GTs, jag, chocolate, and severum. My doviis hate the freddys but are fine with the RTM, jags, and lyonsis.

There is no way to be positive on a scenario. Aggressive fish will sometimes leave the less aggressive fish alone and only bug the aggressive ones. Some will just pick on the weaker non aggressive ones, and others will just indiscriminately kill everything. Its impossible to give perfect advise.

Id just keep it simple and get a firemouth instead of the oscar it won't get as big and will probably not cause a problem. This will probably give the least amount of problems at least from my experience.

ok, what is a rtm? red tail something??? i forgot to mention i would like to get a few firemouths, but whatever:) ya i am quickly figureing out that the more aggresive the fish are the harder they are to keep and keep happy!!! i will post pix when i get it done, it should be done by september, maybe late august... a guy can hope can't he??? ;) thnx...

FM will get the crap beat out of them with those fish. Another option might be a salvani.

That fw toadfish will be tough because you really should put it in brackish and it has a huge mouth. the pictus cats will probably end up getting eaten once the toadfish gets bigger

the pictus have the spines and are being kept with a toadfish at the lfs. so would the salvini be better then the fire mouth??? what species should i do??? so what does rtm mean??? ok so out of firemouths, salvinis, and a rtm(whatever that is...), or something else what would be good??? thnx...

Sorry RTM Red Tiger Motoguese. Looks alot like a jag but only gets about 12 inches. After thinking about it salvini would be perfect. Aggressive enough and smaller.

for the most part none of the cichlid species in original list are of particularly aggressive species. The main aggression issues for me would be one dempsey vs. the other, and the leporinus going nuts and shredding the other fish's fins. I wouldn't add a parachromis or anything of that level of aggression. If you want to replace something with other cichlids, stay along the lines of chocolates, firemouths, and things like that

I have had jacks, salvini, and oscars, and firemouths all in a tank at the same time. I think the jacks will be okay with an oscar. I have had oscars with other more aggressive fish than jacks and they held their own. Oscars are slow but they can take it. I think oscars, jacks, and salvini would be cool and would work.

I really think you should research the fish you are thinking about putting in the same tank before going out and wasting x amount of money on fish that aren't going to cope well together. I urge you to ponder for awhile, (Ex: The tank size, filtration, decorations and most importantly the mix of fish) and get the details exactly before you do anything. Thats just my Opinion but I would think about that if I were you.
