My GATF is finally on pellets!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seriously good looking GAFT there. :)
Thanks man. Yours isn't bad looking either :).

Congrats man, looks like mine unfortunately doesn't eat anything but live.. And they are big now.. When I starve them, just ends up biting other fish in aggrrssion which causes too much damage at their size..

Thank you. And yeah, if my small 7" dude took 50+ days to get to pellets (he was already on cut fish before that) I can only imagine how long it would take for a 17" ATF to accept pellets!

Lol they would start taking chunks of meat off other tank mates before giving in at this point. I think the cut off point is around 12-13" when they start getting much thicker. But yes, now that yours is on pellets, should be cruising by now hah.

The Bambusa took some fish slices since yesterday. :) (I think non of them like the fish slices and ate them begrudgingly LOL!).

Now it is left the FAFT and Odoe. Hopefully they will be converted within these few days.

It took me about a month to get my small 4" FATF to get off of live about a year ago. They're stubborn lol.

I found my odoe easy to get off of live.

And yeah odoes are pretty easy. But I'm guessing it's a lot harder in a predatory community setting. The easiest way I've found is by separating the fish that needs to be trained and adding a teacher to that setup.

I started the weaning since last week as there are some shortage of live feeders at my LFS.

Was pretty surprised too that the ATFs (except FATF) started eating those slices after a day or starving.

It's easier on my wallet and I am really looking forward to "pumping" them up from now onwards. :)

That could work. But I didn't go that route. I trained my odoe, curu, and bichirs at the same time. But the wolf and bichirs are easy in general, so maybe that made it easier for my odoe. I will say she took the food faster than my wolf, but my wolf was wc and it took him months to completely settle in. I found the bichirs and odoe took to non live within a week, and the wolf, well he ate some tankmates for awhile.. I think it took long for him though cause my tank is in my room and he wasn't comfortable swimming out in front of me for a few months and I was feeding floating foods.

Yeah definitely! And apart from the usual reasons for not using feeders (diseases, lack of nutrition, etc..) I've found the biggest motivation for me is that I don't have to maintain another tank just for the feeders! (I know shame on me lol).

Might've been red he posted a pic of his, mine however mauled two bala Sharks the same size as him, they were fine for like 2 months maybe more and then I noticed he started getting irritated from them and started flaring at them, then woke up to one with a bunch of bite marks from him and soon after the next one had the same thing happen to him. But he ate another wolf, a marble goby, and I can't remember what else, I'm sure there's more lol, he also killed a 5-6" jag but that guy was asking for it (he was around 8" when he did all of this), and he ate some SD recently, my lfs wasn't getting in massivore for whatever reason, I went every week and nothing for a good 3 weeks, after a while he took one SD out, bit it in half, then another one the next week, good thing they finally got some in don't know how much longer the other 3 would have lasted, they're really scared now hiding and the corners and not shoaling and swimming about anymore unfortunately, was thinking of getting another two maybe they'll bring them back to life, maybe not.

Oh man.. I remember when I had a lacerdae, it almost bit a wide bar SD into half. I had to intervene. I would have kept that guy but his growth rate was faster than my ATFs so had to let him go. I want to get another lac, eventually.
