I, as many others, have been reading your posts with great interest and admiration. I have hesitated commenting because I do not believe in giving opinions about subjects I do not have expertise or direct experience; however a wind turbine to power pumps in the greenhouse is also a project I have been wrestling with for nine months. Am I wrong or has there not been a mention of a diode to prevent the flow of current from the battery to the turbine when the wind is still? A diode (or retifier bridge) is a necessity in even a simple system otherwise the battery will be drained.

I didn't knew this. I must study it better. Thank you for your advise ;)

The Chispito Wind Generator is a (relatively) simple to build wind power generator designed and built by a charity that works to bring electricity to remote and poor locations in America's Southwest and northern Mexico. Their website has complete instructions and trouble shooting advice. Go to www.velacreations.com click on Energy, Wind Power and look toward the bottom of the page for the link to the Chispito. I hope you find this helpful.

PS
I have not built a Chispito. I will not have time until next summer; I have other pressing matters in the greenhouse.

Thank you. I'm going to see it ;)

When you can show us your greenhouse and your experiences. Like that we can learn new things.

I've also emptied the Meridionalis tank.

They are very hard fish. That's why i love them :D

I have some in outside ponds all Winter with no problems.

That was the first cichlid species I’ve bought to maintain outside all year. My dream was to maintain cichlids in my pond garden. And it’s possible!!!!

Very hard cichlid and a beautiful one. That’s because of them that I’ve started my greenhouse. I always thought it was possible to maintain cichlids in those conditions. Cold Winters and only planted ponds.

You can always build an indoor pond with plywood and ABS plastic.

You can build in a magnetic lid with a rubber seal around the edges, with the sump the only semi-exposed area of your tank. or you could just use a bubbler that feeds oxygen into the pump (some aquaclear pumps come with this feature) as the water is sent back into the pond. At least, that's what I am doing.
