to answer the question, i drained the tank to about 6" of water and mixed a batch of clove oil to send the fish gently to sleep, then mixed up a second more concentrated batch to administer the lethal dose. finally in a bag and into the freezer quickly after zero signs of gill movement to make sure the nasty is done.
throughout the whole process they are unconcious and feel nothing.
