In this thread I will be keeping a journal of the growth and development of my group of five h. Carpintis. I got them from Jeff Rapps. They are about 1.5in in size. Will be housed with some Roseline sharks that I have had for some time now. Hopefully when the Texans grow up they will ignore them.

The tank is a 6ft 125gal, it has an FX4 and an Aqua Clear 110 for filtration, Eheim heater and air pump. Black sand for substrate, rocks and a couple manzanita branches.View attachment 1334366
Here we have the beginning full tank shot. I read they like to eat algae so I let it grow out and it seems to be true, I catch them nibbling on it all the time. These guys have some insane amount of blue already. I started feeding them only NLS food since I got them. I have read that they need more veggy matter than some cichlids, they are getting a mix of algeamax, ultra red, and normal NLS pellets. Fifty percent algeamax, twenty-five percent each ultra red/normal.View attachment 1334373
They have been eating it so that's great. They have had some frozen bloodworms/Brine shrimp.

So here they are sorry but these guys never stop so hard to get real clear pics.

Any tips on these guys is greatly appreciated!
Man, those are beautiful! If only I were independently wealthy, and could have a 4000sf
Aquarium room with many tanks housing all the species I drool over on this forum. But alas...

Thank you for the compliment

Really tho all I do is feed them and change a lot of water.... LOL!
I took to heart what wiser than me members said "the key is water changes". My tanks get 75% every third day.

So Betsie the cow fish has a secondary role in the tank. Anyone who has Swordtails knows how crazy the male's dart around in display for the females. Well Thor doesn't seem to like this and chases him to make him stop. Well as soon as Thor starts chasing Betsie swims over and gets in the middle and stops the chasing before Thor can get close. So besides be the algea control cowfish, she is part peace keeper.

I was hopeful that it would all work out. Sadly they decided not to play along. I woke up this morning to a dead female swordtail. Frack was eating from the corpse. So I don't know who killed it, there are a couple culprits who could have. Needless to say the remaining swordtails have been moved back to the 55gal.

Actually lets change that....

Thor was in a mood I guess and he was chasing the little HRP nonstop so I grabbed him and tossed him back into the 55. So all the new friends got evicted already.

Back to him and his three buddies that he seems to get along with. They all go about doing there own things not interacting with each other really.

Frack patrols near the surface, likes to hang out in the new Vals at times. 15451974145261910434186.jpg

Betsie is always grazing on something. She even eats the algea off of the plants without hurting the plant itself. 1545197705092107038984.jpg

The still unnamed Lima Shovelnose has a new hang out spot. It was on the side of the tank. He moved it to front&center of the tank so I get to see him more now. 15451975551431859744936.jpg

So far Thor has not messed with the plants. He likes to swim all around them like some kind of fish obstacle course. I mentioned how he was chewing on that branch in a previous post. Well he now has all kinds of chew marks on the branch. 1545197293390-1574239265.jpg
