I love stealing ideas from different fish keeping. If your going to put it in a shed why not run a bottom drain to the filter, the pump as the return, it's got to be easier and less of a headache? Sorry I've got my pond head on, I'll sketch something
I don't think it would be any different Honestly... a hole in the bottom or a hole in the side is the same thing really... since the pump is submerged it makes sense either way.

Just that it might be easier if you just tip the tank rather than worry about an overflow and have the water spill over the side. It'd make it a bit hard to keep fish in it without some odd mesh lid or something.
building a overflow is not only going to be more pleasing to the eye but if the pipe runs down till under the pond water line it will be much quieter and it is really cheap to do, trying to contain the fish in a tipped tank wouldn't be hard but trying to keep the flow direction going where you want it to go and quitely would be

I was first thinking of doing that , but as you say it will be a little hard to keep fish in it , plus i am not sure is the weight/ and pessure of the water would not crack the glass .

Or i could just put a flexy pipe on to the pump to the filter and have it come over the side of the pond , Could i ?

True I was just thinking of ideas to save the water on the floor concern from the first post. Just trying to provide different options that's all:)

Stop posting I'm trying to draw;)

So what you are saying is to split the outlet from the flter so one goes in the tank and a secend straight into the pond . So the force of the water goingto the tank wont be as strong and upset the fish in there . ?
:grinyes: yep.. thats the idea, you always want to have options, Personally I have been thinking of a special "planted tank" that I want to do and have it running partially on my main system (Similar) but instead I'd be using that tank for "extra" Filtration but still having a nice display tank which I can always turn a valve and it works by itself another turn of the valve and it's exchanging water with the other tanks :headbang2

Yer , i am wanting to still use the tank to keep fish in , maybe a couple of medium/ largeish Cichlids , maybe a Pleco or two .

Just to give you all an idea on the pond , size and shape there is a little drawing of it .

please do, sketch something up as i am not 100% sure on what you are meaning .
I'm working off nothing other than I'm building a pond in my shed and don't want it to overflow so if I've missed something then sorry:)

Install a bottom drain to the filter via under ground pipework(or as in my sketch a brace under the pond). As long as the pond and filter are level gravity won't let anything over flow. The pump can be housed anywhere in, depending on the filter and as long as it's too to strong to empty the filter all will be well. If it's too strong nothing will overflow just the pump will burn out. The big plus with this way is later down the line you can add more filters if you need them as long as you keep them level.

Bass, sorry not trying to annoy you just had a 2 day discussion(minor argument) about potentially doubling the filters on my pond;)

Sorry Dj not trying to derail here's the sketch:

Thanks alot that gives me something to think about .

But i think my way would be best , only as for me it's easier to do and i wont have to worry about cutting the linner for a bottom drain .

Thanks anyways , i will deffently think about tho .

Whats the chainsaw in the pond?
