Thanks love your tank, very nice.

Do you think that freshwater plants like a very fine gravel compared to a more pebble shap that a lot of pet stores sell? I am about to set up my tank and I have about 2 inches of sand on the bottom and then I got black pebbles, do you think I should crush them and make them as fine as possible.? Thanks for the responce.

I think you would be better off with just sand... is the black pebbles one of those fake painted types?

Thanks for the reply, yes it is painted. A long time ago, I had a FW planted tank with just sand, and I upgraded the tank and the roots from the plants were incredible. Nice tank good luck,.

awesome tank man! I had dwarf hair grass for a while too they are pretty sturdy and tough, I've noticed with mine though that sometimes when they start spreading out the roots don't stay under the substrate but start growing above it and it's all floating and dangly looking did you have that at all?

This is what my tank looks like with black sand and no O2 I just add excel once a week and running 2x39w t-5's 12hrs a day and it looks great, the sand is hard to keep clean, but I put 4 coryies in and they keep it pretty clean,Well worth it because not alot of people do a planted tank with sand,Let me know what you think??? Sorry a couple are blurry

Yeah, that happened a lot at first. I just either buried it, or sometimes I just cut it. Eventually when the roots of these dangling runners touch the substrate, they are able to pull themselves down.
