My juvenile Sajica

I will say this. I've got the single male in his 40b now with swords, sae's, two baby hoplo cats, an l183 pleco and kuhli loaches and he's a perfect community fish. He's just rough on females. I think you'll be fine in a 75 especially with other targets. I just don't think this species does well when it's just a pair without any other cichlids to target.
This seems to be the case with amatitlania-types. My jumbo male panamensis that killed his female in a 90 gallon, is now living happily amongst community fish in a 45 gallon planted tank. They just go nuts when that breeding aggression kicks in, and if they don't have anybody else to chase, they let it all out on the female. Fish that they don't see as a threat (non cichlids) are usually ignored.

Ok well at least I know I have options...if the extras don’t seem to work at worst I can just leave a single male in there and rescape and maybe introduce a group of Corys or more swords or something to fill out the tank. So if this plan doesn’t work at least I’m not completely screwed haha

Keeping a male as a community fish has been rewarding. He's probably my favorite fish out of everything i own. Zooms right up to the glass anytime i come in the room. Has some attitude. He likes to bite me during water changes. Will occasionally chase the other fish but doesn't really show any intention of actually catching them. Quite interactive.

After only 5 days I’m already finding that to be the case...I come in to watch them for a bit and they immediately come to the glass/surface looking for food

embrace the algae. i don't like it on my glass but i let it grow on the rocks and wood. if not i'd just go insane

or get a few SAE. I have a few in my 40 with the my male. He leaves them alone
Just thinking....I’m guessing they won’t work but it’s worth asking. Any chance snails of some sort wouldn’t be bothered by the Sajica? I hear they are great algae cleaners, and I imagine wouldn’t add much at all to the bio load.

Every time I try snails with CA cichlids they get picked at and don't do well. But hey, give it a shot, maybe it will work for you!

Yeah I might do that...hopefully if there’s enough going on between the Sajica themselves and the dithers, the snails can fly under the radar. Think I’ll get 3-4 and see if it works out

i have a few nerites in with my sajica. he pays them no mind. though i don't really like them. you trade algae for white specs all over your tank and they don't get all the algae.

Darn, I thought maybe the Sajica or swordtails would eat the eggs...it may still be worth a shot. I can always remove them if need be

removing them off of glass is easy. removing them off of driftwood...not so easy. and i've yet to find anything that will eat nerite eggs. plenty of folks say botia loaches do but i've never kept them thoughi think if you keeping nerites to help with algae and then loaches to help with nerite eggs then it's getting a little silly
