My juvenile Sajica

removing them off of glass is easy. removing them off of driftwood...not so easy. and i've yet to find anything that will eat nerite eggs. plenty of folks say botia loaches do but i've never kept them thoughi think if you keeping nerites to help with algae and then loaches to help with nerite eggs then it's getting a little silly
Agree 100%, I’m thinking I’ll scrap that idea then. I don’t want to go from one problem to another...

Ok guys, day 8 and it seems as though the male has turned more aggressive. Things had kinda calmed down since my first post in this thread a few days ago....this morning I did a water change, and shortly after I noticed the extra aggression. Now he won’t even allow the female in their cave. Is it possible that she laid eggs and now he’s defending them from everyone including her?

It wouldn’t let me edit my post to tag you guys... duanes duanes Gourami Swami Gourami Swami sevs and sajicas for me sevs and sajicas for me any thoughts on this sudden change?

Possible the water changed started up the spawning behavior. I wouldn't sweat it too much unless the male was relentlessly pursueing the female
No he wasn’t relentlessly pursuing her....just the chasing, but a bit more extreme than usual and this time including his female which I hadn’t seen before. Mostly only when she or the others are near his cave, it doesn’t seem like he’s actively seeking to find another fish. In the meantime I turned the lights off and covered the tank so it’s completely dark. Hopefully that’ll help things calm down a bit

Just following back up on this...strange, the male seems to have completely lost interest in that female. There are no signs of pair bonding anymore. I wonder why they seemed to hit it off right away and for a good week or so, then all of a sudden it completely and abruptly stops. Maybe the female wasn’t ready to spawn so he lost interest? Anyway, side note, I lost one sajica yesterday. Poor guy must have gotten spooked and hid in a small crevice in one of my plastic skeleton caves, but he couldn’t get out. He was badly scratched up etc from trying to escape I’m sure. Ughhh, never using those cheap plastic decor again. Damn

yep. i only use natural stuff now. rocks, plants and wood. Occasionally i'll add a fake plant or two. And if i'm trying to breed cichlids a terra cotta pot or 3. I've never been comfortable using anything else.

Yeah I had em laying around from when I started fish keeping....I was a teen and thought those fake skeleton mountains etc were so cool lol. I held on to them for who knows what reason, but then thought they’d be good for a quarantine tank because who cares how it looks...well, just pvc for me in quarantine tanks from now on.
