Is this a Mayan? I just posted thread asking if I should try to repair the tail. You think he would be good to try and breed? Would he be condsidered a good specimen?

Its hard to tell from the photo but the specimen in Reply (24) carries a few traits I'd not want like the bars are quite irregular and broken and the colours seem pretty washed out (but that could be caused by anything). The damage to the Caudal fin looks irreparable as is the damage to the front of the Dorsal...

My reply said Mayan is greater than festae as in I prefer Mayan to festae my info is fine mate

It has got all the tell tale signs of a Mayan....
Poor thing has got beaten up bad !!!
Even if the tail repairs itself or not...if you wish you can try whatever best you can do...never know..good intentions can work wonders !!!
Keep us posted and good luck

Thanks vinod_uthaiah vinod_uthaiah . Yeah all of the remaining tears were already there when I got her. I think it's best to leave her be. It's really just a cosmetic thing now. She is active and eating well and no sign of illness. it was good to hear a few ppl assess that the split seems too deep to repair, which affirmed my thinking. I wouldn't want to cut her tail and have it never grow back or something. Yikes! I will either get her a larger tank and maybe try some new tank mates, or find her a good home at some point. Let's see what another month or two will do for her. :)

It was very confusing your vague message Mayan>Festae.... Suggested you were implying my Mayan in the pic was a Festae.
