My MAYAN Cichlids

I saw a Monster Mayan at a business premises Yesterday... must have been 14 15 inches long easy... Anyway heres a pic of one of my larger Mayans... about 3.5" at the moment.DSC_0002.JPG

They are called false Festaes by many.

Just that we want Festaes and these just happen to look similar.

Mayans can glass bang. You can get an idea of personality difference there. Festaes are pretty but not as energetic entertainers.

That's true.... Festae don't have the personality of Mayans but we can work around that by, in my case, having two big females and a few more characterful species in a community. Mayans seem to be a lot more aggressive, being related to Beanii... so keeping them in a community is harder. So pros n cons really. Festae are definately more community friend, if it's just females.

I heard that these can tolerate lower temperature like as low a 14C... In the UK this time of year our ponds are between 18 and 22C. Reason why I'm think of putting them in my pond for the next two months is for them to feed on these larva that eat Water Lilly leafs....
