The top & bottom pictures DO look more FH to me. Top with the flowerline & the bottom showing a slightly different snout shape.(could just be the angle)

But you would go to petsmart and buy a red Texas and call it a Kamfa? I mean you did right? Just saying, petsmart mislabels fish all the time. I understand the physical evidence you provided seems strong enough but this little tidbit here isn't adding up for me. Maybe I am misunderstanding your meaning. Can you explain further?
 
Any more updates on this guy?

I would say its a Midevil. I have a Male Amphilophous Xiloaensis that has not peeled yet, he has that cherry pink coloring around his throat/breast area, also same snout shape.

I dont know much about flowerhorns, but arent flowerhorn considered to be a Colorful Hybrid fish concentrated with amphilophous but not limited to amphiphlous genes.

midevils and midas have lines like a flowerhorn before they peel... mine had a red head aswell then peeled into my avatar at 8inch! thats my 2pence worth!-)
 
He turned into a nasty critter. So he went away. I traded him for seven Juvenile red head geos. The store owner sold him the next day.

defo looks like a midas/rd ... vs a flower horn. ... either way very cool fish. i am sure he will be a great fish for you and will be lots of fun as he matures. but keep him solo. ... only fish i have ever kept successfully long term is africans. and you know we don't like to mix those.
