That thing is cool, but if it were between that and lets say a STI Rally car (granted the ground clearance thing makes a difference) I would go with the rally.
Don't get me wrong, I love Jeeps (I used to have that same one as the picture you posted, minus the pre runner suspension, now I have a 99' 4 door), but for high speed off-roading Subaru takes the cake.
And about the 2wd thing. I just said that becuase of the cars mentioned (grand am, skylark fwd... so on) Even still the vehicles you mentioned with 2wd are no where near stock vehicles (desrert racers with 30"+ suspension travel and sandrails are well... a motor with a couple of metal pipes holding on some wheels). My chevy caprice would be a bad ass desert racer with 30" of travel.
