Nice! What's in them?

I'm an air-cooled VW guy too, although none of mine were off-roaders. I've owned a 1970 bug, 1965 Karmann-Ghia, 1972 bus, and my current 1969 Karmann-Ghia, which is running a 2110 cc Type I motor w/ dual Weber 44 IDFs.

The boxer engines are Subaru engines. The bug was 1800cc ,the others 2L.You still use VW gearbox with an adaptor plate.Have to spend the money and get the box beefed up though.H-H-Duty clutch and mod"flywheel.Normal clutches just shatter.
I love Karman-Ghias.theey're worth a pretty penny here now.

In the U.S., Kennedy Engineered Products (KEP) makes those adaptor kits for Subie to rear-engine VW. Is that what you used?

They were also a porsch engine not sure if Subaru got the rights to design them or just made them different enough so there were no infringement laws.
I love Karman Ghias also but try and find one here under 40g thats not rotted.

VW, Porsche, Subaru, and Alfa Romeo (European models) have all used horizontally opposed engines, aka boxers. BMW motorcycles (R-bikes) have used boxer twins for years. The Honda Valkyrie and Gold Wing currently use a boxer six.

Here in Aus,John Sherman engineering on the gold coast does the adaptor and Flywheel to suit about 100 engines including V8's.
