Damn dude, i think bout this all the time as i have A LOT of little cousins and my tank is in the main room. I never leave my food out in the open and my family knows VERY well how pissed i get and protective i am of my fish.

My mum copped a mouthful for wiping down the cover glass! I dont care what anyone says at the end of the day no one but me can touch my fish
 
That certainly sucks man, My nephews only get to view my tanks with adult supervision. I let my oldest nephew in alone with my tanks once, an magically the next time I cleaned the tank I found a bunch of drywall screws in the gravel. Luckily nothing bad happened to my fish.
 
Sorry to hear about your loss. What a shame.

Are you sure it was only fish food the little guy threw in there? Kinda hard to believe that a can of food kills these big fellas w/in 14-16 h... The worst part of the decaying process was yet to come... you were lucky you didn't spend the night at your girlfriend's place (it's a rare occasion when a man can say that)

Yeah it was pretty bad LOL....

She poured the Sinking Cichlid pellets....turned big and green and mushy on the bottom.....and the Jumbo Freeze Dried Shrimp were swirling all over.... :nilly:
 
One of the reasons I generally hate kids. I would have slapped that kid raw.

I don't really understand it though, i've always loved and respected animals, even when I was 2/3. I've never done anything like that.

Even a 5 year old SHOULD know better.

Ouch - sorry to hear about the fish. They looked like great specimens.
My 2 year old helps me feed the fish, but all he's allowed to do is feed one algae wafer to my africans and a pinch of flakes to my 10 gallon convict growout tank.
I'll have to remind my wife to keep a close eye on him around my tanks... Luckily he can only reach the 10 gallon so far.
 
i'd line the kid up with his/her parent(s), and administer a great beating, then demand payment for the fish.
 
My nephew put a can of flake and a can of shrimp pellets in my 10g once.Was really pissed but at the same time glad it was just all the guppies and platies he killed instead of my bigger fish in the other tanks.But yeah, sucks when that happens.Food should have a disclaimer.
