Hi guys, just wanted to show off a picture of my Native tank in progress. It's a standard 55 gallon I'm filtering with a Fluval 406. I set the tank up about a month ago and just cycled it using a friends Convict. The tank has since cycled and is doing great. I've gone ahead and added some anacharis. I wanted to see how it would do in my tank. I've since returned the Convict to his owner and am waiting arrival of my 2 rainbow darters. When I decide on a sunfish, I plan on adding 3 of them. If I can come up with some native algae eaters, I'll round out the tank with those. Currently have the tank set to 76 degrees and will probably go lower. I would like to add another plant, but I'm not sure what I want. I'm open to suggestions.

Let me know what you guys think. I got my drift wood off a local member here. Josh is a great guy and I hope to actually go out fishing with him this year.

Thanks guys,

Justin

Rainbow darters are a great choice for your native tank, however they do prefer faster flowing water so you might be best to add a powerhead to create water movement. I wouldnt mix sunfish with them though as your likely to wake up one morning with rainbows missing :-(

Swamp Darters would be w better choice if you do not have/want current in your tank. Also adding a school of killifish or minnows would be nice. For sunfish could go with Bluespotted Sunfish, or Banded Sunfish. Dollar Sunfish would be cool too.

logperch darters are my favorite. i have pics in my album. there not small enough to get eaten and you can easily catch them in a cast net. there max size is 7" and they love bloodworms. rainbows and minnows are too small for sunfish. my long-ear sunfish destroys minnows and will disembowel any thing around 3". my long-ear is only 5.6". i also have a channel cat, largemouth bass, florida gar and green sunfish.

Nice tank. Its going to look really good once the plants grow in fully. In my opinion Id go with black banded sunfish, some mud minnows, and either a nice population of gambusia or least killis. As far as the decor goes I would see about getting a few other species of plants in there. I recently added some shield plant to a few of my tanks. Its still little but it adds a ton of color (red).

nice tank man!
im from chester county but i live in philly going to school
im trying to get out this weekend and get some sunfish.
did you order yours or are you gonna catch them

Well I bought 2 Rainbow Darters from Jonahs, and I'll probably buy my Black Banded Sun's there. I would like to find some clean up fish for the bottom. Not sure yet. Was hoping to get some recommendations.

I really like the style of the tank, the driftwood and plants look perfect. Really makes the whole tank appear to be a lake scene. I think if you added some large rocks in their that it might tie the whole tank together
