My new baby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nice impulse buy.
all of mine grew pretty fast,1 - 2 inches per month.
but they normally stop growing around 8 inches.
they grow to 12 inches max but most of the time max out at 10.
all of mine ate anything, even veggies.
and will come to the top to grab food when im near the tank.
cichlids generally are a bad idea since they are aggressive and food probably will not get to the senegal.

Yeah I got mine on Feb 14th at two inches and they are now 9'' !!

They are very attached to each other. In the last two months they act like hey have paired up. For the most part, totally ignoring the Delhz in the same tank...lol.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!!

Well now for the decision on if I should get another...at this point I actually would LOVE to get another, the question then I guess becomes would they be ok in the 55g. At the size they are right now (they if I got another) I'm sure they would be. The Firemouth in the tank will be moved to the 150 once he is bigger, right now he is about 2.5" still way to small for the big boy tank, the rest of the fish in there are not aggressive, the Paradise fish like to chase here and there but have never caused a problem.

If say they only get to 8-10" I guess they would be able to stay in the 55...but would they be comfortable?

After reading through things I really do not think I want to put them in the African Cichlid tank. My other option would be to move the 55 inhabitants to the 70 when it is done, they would then gain 12" in length but only 1" in width.

Yes, Jakob he is very tiny...hopefully with some good food and good water changes this will change.

Ok, if you guys think it would be ok to have 2 (or more) in my 55, I would like to do it. They were all so sad in that tank (the living ones anyway)..so I wouldn't mind getting more if possible. I would have no problem changing the plans on my 70 IF it would actually help. The 70g is 60"L x 13"W x 21"H?

The is a chance in about 6 months I could get a 125-180g tank...but this is my "plan" doesn't mean it WILL happen, cause we all know how plans can go right?

Even with the other fish in there? If it really wouldn't be a problem...I'll go tomorrow and get another!

I just looked back cause I didn't remember if I did add the tank mates or not...I left out I also have 2 angel fish in there. Like I said though once the Firemouth is bigger he is going to the big boy tank.

Thanks so much guys!!!

I was referring to them being alone in the 55. I can't comment on what the firemouth might do, but the angels shouldn't be an issue.

The only problem I really have had with the Firemouth..is with my Cats, he has a spot they like to go to and he will have none of it...he comes flairing out at them and chases them off, then returns to his spot.

Yes a cpl of senies will be fine in a 55
As for the firemouth you'll of course have to let the senies growout some.If you see any major aggression just re-arrange the tanks decor some this will remove the existing territorial boundries-Anne

Well, I am hoping that the Firemouth grows quick enough I can add him to my 150 soon. I was thinking I MAY be able to add him with the Africans when I get it done.

There is plenty of hiding spots for him, since he is so small right now he fits in between the slate rock I have and under my driftwood...even under the plant leaves.

I will be keeping an eye on them though!
