sorry to hijack but where do you get such fine sand? no LFS's here have anything other than gravel.

It's play sand from Bunnings, and Australian chain store much like your home depot.

I think it is Silica Sand
It is a building material

I don't know the compound, but it works.

Congrats!!! Awesome pickup!!!

let me know how it died Eric and if in any way you feel hard done by give me a call and we can work out something

No Shane, this was by no means any of your fault.

I appriciate the condolences guys, it was a very hard loss. I honestly don't know how happened. As soon as I saw he was passed, I took him out immediatly (couldn't stand to see the ther fish pick at him), and bagged him up and put him in the freezer. I did some tests right away, and nothing was out of wack. PH was fine, ammonia nitrate nitrite and temp were all good. He did have the red imflamed area under his belly, but his colouration on top of his disk was fine days and hours before hand. I felt his stomach when I pulled him out and he wasn't skinny or malnorished, so since I can't find a solution, I will find a vet that will do an autopsy on him, to see if it was medical (heart attack etc.). When I find what happened to him. I will make according adjustments to the tank, and you guessed it, i'm coming back for more. I won't give up.

Peace.

bring the old boy over Eric so i can see him and take it to a vet,my big girl is prego again so you can have another one once you sort the water issues, not sure if freezing is a good idea if you want a autopsy but we can see what can be done.she should give birth in a month
cheers shane r
