  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have both a florida and gator.... its a definate Gator.

Floridas are slimmer and have more stripes than broken spots such as yours.

Ill get pics of both of mine next to each other if you would like.

I've seen even the most knowledgable gar specialists mess up IDing between Florida's and Gator's at such a small size. What is making everyone so sure?

I'm not sure your altogether there on "Knowledgeable gar experts" and might be following the wrong grouping there.. anyone that has just bothered to look over a few of the resources here could not fail to ID this fish. I can not even imagine how one with any lepisostied knowledge could screw up a Gator for a Florida. The fish are so totally different that a misidentification is almost impossible.

It really is continually amazing that some find it so hard to ID such a small group of fish.. For F-sake it is really pretty simple.. Especially since there are so fricking many threads and even websites about this.

yeah, more specifically, what are you're plans to make sure the gator doesn't eat the Florida gar in about 1-2 months? the gator is already bigger than that FL, and will have a much faster growth rate...not even accounting for aggression damage, the FL will be in danger of full on predation very soon. just a forewarning--
