I've been told Niles are silverish gray, and the royals are copper Plus all niles have the markings when they are juveniles depending on their mood. I currently own 2 royals (copper) & 2 niles (gray)
Do you have any pictures posted?

Thats good progess Snow, mine initially took some freeze dried shrimp and dead feeders but it no longer takes them....I will get back on the program of converting him from live foods when I get back from vacation.

nice!!!! dont they get like 300 pounds? any way good luck with the project

Perhaps your perch is not the same fish that Jeremy Wade featured in a recent episode of River Monsters. The fish on River Monsters did not have those marking, unless your fish has different markings due to being a juvenile. Maybe the markings eventually change as the fish ages. I don't know, but the fish in River Monsters was a beast and was too big for the typical home aquarium.

No those are the same fish. Your going to have to upgrade to a 1000-2000 gallon tank for an adult. I had one in my 240 gallon for about 2 years he got to be about 18 inches and he died due to a nitrite spike. They act a lot like a datnoid except they grow a lot faster.:D
