My new tank (first real MONSTER)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good idea to insulate the walls but I really recommend covering the foam with drywall. It is a combustible material & not really a good idea to leave it exposed. I know no one plans on having a fire or electrical short, but the drywall would at least give you some initial protection.

The tank is looking great & I really envy you. Are you going to have enough head room over the tank to work on the tank? I have a 220G in my basement with 23" head room and setting the tank up & working on it is a real pain sometimes, I mean that literally.

first time seein this thread, awesome score on a monster tank, good luck on the rest of the set up process and keep us posted, cant wait to see it set up and running

Umm. yeah there isn't alot of room you're right. lol But i'll deal with it. I know i'll hit my head on the lights or somthing soon enough. lol but that's what you get when you think a 585gal tank donesn't look that big and you get it home and find out how big it really is. LOL

I also understand your concern about the walls. I wanted to keep it cheep as possible for now. But I am also looking into gettting an electrition to come in and wire me some new outlets and a new subbox for this tank and the basement. If I do go ahead and do that then I might add the drywall later.

Have the glass man cut you 3 pieces like this...
drill 3 holes in them and put knobs on them...
lift to feed remove, to clean

with my braces running with the red lines. It would be better to have the hole with the blue dots so that way all pieces would have a brace or tank edge on either side. There is a lip on the top of the frame and about 3" before where tohe water line is. I am assuming it's so you can run your pluming without it being seen. I was going to take the extra acrylic and make small supports and attach them to the braces to try and remove any sagging.

I only really want to get into this tank from the middle unless doing a good cleaning. I plan on if possible only feeding from the middle for most fish and a end for any rays that would end up in this tank.

But I do like the way you're thinking very helpful.
