So Im setting up my long awaited 10 gallon tanganyikan tank. I plan to start with multis and then maybe introduce another species of fish from lake tang. Tell me what you think of it so far. I just washed the sand and the rocks and put them in the tank, so theres no water; and the tank is on books because Im siliconing some rubber pieces to elevate the tank so it can't slide around and if water leaks, it won't go straight onto the wood table i'm putting it on. Is this a good idea? Oh, and I need to find an intank canister filter so I can put it in my room and keep it relatively quite. Any suggestions on models? And how is my sand level, is this enough for multis since I know they like to dig and stuff.

i really like the way it looks. my only concern is with the feet. with acrylic it might bend in the middle. from what i learned the whole bottom piece must be on a flat level surface. but it being a 10 gallon i dont know if that will matter or now

go and get yourself a fluval 205. you should be fine with that.

Really, so I shouldn't put those rubber pieces underneath? Okay, I guess that makes sense, I don't want it to bend towards the middle. Okay. maybe I'll just put a piece of styrofoam underneath. I just don't like the way styrofoam looks, but I'll get over it. Thanks. And Ill research the model of the filter too. Any suggestions for anything else?

Zoomed 501 canisters from petsmart
ive got 2 their silent
if you get this though also get a powerhead or a cheap HOB because their isnt much flow

If the surface is flat you don't need styrofoam. Being a 10gal tank it shouldn't matter that much.

UPDATE: Heres a picture of the tank filled with water and one of those book reading lights because it looks like a cool moonlight to me, rather than flashing 40 watts of light into there (brings a calmer mood). I added another rock to make it look more full of a cave network. Tell me what you think. Haven't gotten a chance to buy a filter yet. :feedback:

nice and simple, i like it!

for filtration u could go with an AC 20, their very quiet..they make a tiny little trickle noise which i like, but other then that there's no vibration or humming sounds..plus they hang on the back of the outside of the tank = more tank space, less clutter, more natural look.

in ur situation i think it would be nicer just to go with a HOB rather then take up space in the tank with one of those submersible filters. this is just my opinion u can do what u feel is most appealing.

Okay, so I was looking around for some possible tankmates for the 3 or 4 multis I plan to get and since I have a nice little mound of rocks in the corner, I thought it would be suitable for maybe a pair of n. brichardi or n. gracilis or something, because they have excellent coloration in the book Back To Nature Guide to Tanganyikan Cichlids by Ad Konings, yet when I look for more info online, all the pics of them are extremely drab and much of the information is inconsistent. Can anyone give me some ideas for possible tankmates. I was also looking into j. transcriptus, but I found somewhere that they eat other tankmates fry? I don't want to lose to many multi fry.
