My new tiger datnoid won't eat? suggestions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good choice, that's exactly how my NTT & (1" bigger) Flagtail started out: NTT showed him who was boss for about an hour but since then they've been good friends (even if the Dat does try to steal food from the FT lol). Though the NTT is about 5-6" now, sometimes he's shy to come out and feed until he sees the FT eating first.

They should do well together (though the FT will grow a lot faster), post some pix when you can.
I'll try and post some pics later on today, I'm happy to hear you had a similar situation, I would honestly love it if it the flagtail grew fast, the dat isn't attacking the flagtail anymore buy I can tell the flagtail is still afraid of the dat lol

think i might have buy somesort of tetra dither fish, the datnoid is relentless chasing and nipping the flaftail, i need something to take abit of attention off him

You could have a point -- my NTT stopped bugging the Flagtail after about an hour or so, but that could have been because a 10.5" Xback got fed up with his tough guy antics and bonked him on the head a couple of times. He was chill afterwards and has remained so even after the Aro was gone (it's a side story but in fact I have a sneaky suspicion that it was the mischievous NTT that spooked the Aro at night while it was sleeping, leading to its demise in an internal corner filter).

So dither fish might indeed take the target off your Flagtail's back, though would remind to quarantine and/or get from a very trusted source.

This worked for me. My 2 inch IT is a nasty bastard. I added a bunch of black skirts to occupy his time not long after getting him

Does he catch them yet?
Yeah nothing major but some split fins and scratches. I really like him though. I was surprised at how much character the little guy has. Acts just like a cichlid

So the datnoid ended up killing the flagtail... just as mean as a cichlid, he's grown about a half inch and alot chunkier since feeding with blood worms

I bought a 5" NTT TIGER iin 2 weeks ago. he still doesn't eat anything. It always hide besides the driftwood. his tankmate is 10" HB golden arowana, 8 " indo tiger, 7" flagtail, 8" and 6" peacock bass. I don't see they did bother my NTT. I even bought him a feeder, and it seems he is not interested at all. So, Do u guy have any recommends?
