yes discus could be kept in a 55gal for life. not for beginers though. if you wanted some you could figure it out, but i would give any to jess because they are far to new.

I wouldn't give any to her. She's got her hands full trying to keep snails alive. I don't know what the deal is, the shrimp do fine, can't keep a snail alive. I told her mom to make an account here and ask but she hasn't done it yet. lol. I'll keep it in mind for down the road. They are pretty fish... *ahem* emphasis on down the road!!!
