Nice fish. I am also interested in hearing more about this fish in order to accurately distinguish between the piebald fene, the sp. Catemaco, the 'red fever', and the P. Conklii. One and the same? Or what?
X2 , but cchhcc is saying there the same there isn't a difference between his new fish and Buddha's fish right cc?

In my estimation, yes, they are the same species but perhaps from different collections locales.

Ultimately, they all came from Don Conkel, so he'd be the guy to ask. Perhaps Ira too.

so is this Fene a marbled?

Marbled in the sense that it is a line bred creation of a particular person. You wouldn't find that fish in Lake Catemaco. You would, however, find fish like the ones I posted there.

Consider that specific line bred marbled fene in the same manner you would a calico convict or something similar.

The first page of that link has pics of the line bred marbled fene's ... the last page shows the original breeders, which seem to be standard riverine pink fenes (though the creator calls them grays).

I believe the piebald fene and the new species are the same, it's what they were called once it was established (preDNA) that they were fenes. So I think conkeli, sp. Catemaco, and piebald fenes are all the same, soon to be new fish.

Wow Chris you got the same fish, you are now in the Posse. Congrats.

Its too bad my camera is m.i.a I could take pictures of a bunch of the different varients of what I believe to be the same species none the less. Its like someone else here said, think citrinellus and then go into Jeff Rapps photographic library of Citrinellus and you would think you are looking at 15 different species yet all "Citrinellus" none the less. I use that example since someone else brought it up but I have to agree by looking at the many different varients I have that all came from the same box, from Don as well.
oh-and all labeled red fever piebald

If I lived closer I would buy some too. But methinks I am but a nerd. Shucks.
