My ongoing Panther Chameleon Thread

I use mist systems on my chameleons (very large collection) and I have never had a problem. I use both Rainmakers from Ecologic Technologies and ProMist systems and have had good luck with both. I have used them for the last 6 years and never had a problem with upkeep. Every couple years I replace the mist heads (they are a few dollars each) to make sure they are spraying well, but other then that, never had a problem. I've used them on city water in upstate NY for 4 years and here in Florida for just over 2.

In my opinion, the habba mist sucks. I wouldn't waste my time with them if someone gave me one, let alone pay for it.

Misting frequency will depend on the species, your enclosure and your ambient conditions. Generally Jackson's need more misting then a Panther and a Panther needs slightly more misting then a Veiled. I mist Veileds twice a day for about 2 minutes each, Panthers twice a day for slightly longer (~5 mins) and Jackson's and other montane species either 3 times a day or twice for extended periods (20-30 mins).

I'd say neither...........Both Cages are going to be too small unless you want to upgrade 2 or 3 weeks later...........I'd also shy away from all that zoo-med/zilla/fluker/whatever crap............Go get a Ficus or something similair to put inside..........I do prefer Reptariums over metal screen cages though..........Home Depot is your friend in this case, I just can't stand the pet store supplies - They're made for Humans, not the animals..........

Scream says thats its only temp. housing and that an upgrade would be needed in about 9 months.

ok jer... zoomeds habba mist and distilled water... you cant go wrong.... if you wanna do a better misting system ill show you how to build a awesome one...

So the distilled water is to prevent it from clogging?

If chameleons require the amount of misting Chris Anderson refers to on the top of this page, there is no way you are going to solve your needs with spray bottles!

I make it a habbit to just mist After im ready to goto work and when i get home

Don't overthink or complicate things too much. Automation may be great, but a gallon jug with a pin hole in it also serves the purpose really well. I kept all my Chams outside, and sprayed them down once a day. If it rained in the afternoon, then so be it. They were all healthy and happy. With the Veileds I've got now, I could skip a day or three and they'd never know the difference. Keep it simple, or else it becomes a job, and the enjoyment fades pretty quick.............

Mig - twice a day does not sound bad at all. I looked at the system you suggested but it seems pricey for one lizard, that people claim are easy to take care of. A spray bottle might work just as good! =)
