My Oscars a Pig

What's wrong with the silversides? I have a big tub of them that can last me over a year and both oscar and Bichir like eating them. Why change to tilapia? I have tongs, would it work if i only fed my oscar pellets and kept feeding the bichir silversides, and eventually get him on the pellets as well? and keep the fish as a treat.
The bichir is too big to be food, he's probably 5 maybe 6 inches right now, oscar is 4

Norhing iswrong with the silver sides but your O is familiar with them and not the tilapia. Once you get the endli comfortable eating from the tongs you can vary the diet between tilapia and silversides. Really isnt healthy for the O to be fed SS as a staple anyway.

Your O is eating your endli isnt. That O is gonna go through a growth spurt soon and chances are your endli is cb amd if it doesnt have ggreat genetics it will slow down ontop of not being fed. I could be wrong and your endli is wc but in any case its still not eating and you would be surprised at what an O can fit in its mouth

He's eaten from the thongs a few times so i know it's possible, but oscar sometimes eats it off the tongs. so your reason for me to get tilapia is because oscar is unfamiliar with it so he might not go after that as much as the SS.

The bichir likes the SS, and the oscar likes the pellets i have. I might try and get the bichir on the pellets as well, and have talopia as a treat for the two of em every now and then. would that work?

Yes. Like i said its just gonna be a headache but doable. I rehomed allot of great fish because of this exact issue. You could try feeding at night but no guarantee that your O isnt gonna get the food.

Ok. Is there any reason my bichir takes so long to eat his food. I put it right in front of his face with the tongs and it takes him at least 10 seconds with it right in front of him before he grabs it.

I recall a video I saw on YouTube of this same issue a guy was having with feeding a black ghost knife. He resolved this issue with a feeding tube made out of 3" pvc with holes drilled into it and a removeable end cap on top with the bottom end left open. He drops food into the top and caps it off. The holes drilled on the sides allows the scent of the food to be released... obviously. And his ghost goes up the pvc all the way to the top were the food was. Thing was a frikkin eye sore though. And that wouldn't work forever I'm sure

Bichir are damn near blind. They sense the food more than they see it.

I am going to feed them now. will send a video to show what i mean about my bichir.

Its normal. They are slow eaters for the most part. I have some that will play with the pellets/tilapia before eating it. They'll sniff it, role it around inder there chin swim away, come back and eat it. Others will go nuts and eat right away.

How long have you had the endli ?
