My outdoor cat tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks, thats a good idea. in the other post i was refering to replacing the bucket handle with something friendlier. just got back from home depot, got one big pot of pothos. just separated the soil from the roots and currently soaking it till clean $6.48 much cheaper than the other plants at my lfs. i already had the pump ($25) from 2 years ago, got the big tank free, 55 gallon free, goldfish free, filter media ($6 from 99c store), pothos ($7), 2 channel cats ($10). not bad for just under 50 dollars

just the handles, will be replacing it with some 100lb monofilament. its actually not on the cement, its sitting on top of a tarp on top of heavily packed soil then gravel then soil on top probably about 3 1/2 ft of the repacked earth. also went on a hike/driftwood hunt this weekend and found this awesome colossal piece of driftwood. it weighs about 50lbs, 2 hrs into the canyon to find it, 3 hrs to get back to the car lol. It was extreme but well worth the work, still very sore haha.

any suggestions for prepping this piece of wood? also had my first break out of green water over the weekend after overfeeding the gold fish, filter is on day two of filtering down since saturday and is doing a good job. i have positioned one of the thick scrubber pads at the weir to filter out any debris first, then clean it or replace when full. have only gone through 1 so far.

updated pics of the tank fighting overfeeding or "excessive breeding activity" ( 2 females and 2 groups of males giving chase regularly 250+ eggs w/ fry spotted today). also pics of channels cats in upper tank, appear to have grown almost 1" already, happily feeding on freeze dried plankton. also seeing some distinct coloration differences between the two channel cats, one is beginning to become much darker & larger in the fins than the other.

tough to get good pics of the cats, they're very aware of my presence and don't seem to appreciate being photographed

hey, nice setup. did you catch those small cats from your local source? I'm in south OC and I'm looking to stock my aquaponics system (275 gallons) with small cats, and I was figuring on having to drive to Alpine to get them. If you know of a spot where I can get (buy or catch) them closer to home, I promise not to tell.
