Yeah I am thinking about letting him go in a local pond that is on a college campus which I am pretty sure is illegal or taking him down to LSU with me and getting him a giant pond about 10X bigger than what he is in now

Do NOT let him go locally. That's how lawmakers get ornery. Not only is it illegal and ecologically dangerous but it can make the hobby worse for the rest of us. Don't poop in our cereal, please.

Lot of shooting going on around your channel, huh? Your gar looks great, but that pond will be a little small when he's 6'(correct me if I'm wrong)!

the gar will grow to about 3 ft then slow way down, and even if he can grow to 6' it will take about 25 years to do that! so when the gar is 6' long, this kid will be 40 year old!
