My pet Alligator Gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your gar is Stunted beyond belief.... If you have had him over a year and he can still fit in a 5 gallon bucket like that then something is defiantly wrong with the way you are keeping him. Underfed and his tank and pond are too small. BTW Alligator gar are native much further north than where you are and they seem to have done just fine in the winters for the past few million years...

Feeding him goldfish isn't going to help, that alone will stunt him due to the growth inhibiting hormones they contain. Pellets and shrimp and fresh fish will help.

Did anyone else notice the fumble on the 2nd video?

I didn't see any flags thrown, yea I noticed but the refs didn't. Football time! since your from indianapolis are you a colts fan?

Sorry to derail the thread but yes if you kept your gar for longer then a year and it was only at 6 inches.... then it is stunted unless your like me and is horrible with date and meant had it for 1 month instead of one year.

Does anyone on mfk actually have a mature alligator gar? I've only seen pictures of little babies, I would love to see a pic of a large alligator gar and its housing if anybody actually owns such a beast

I had one around 36", I sold it to BigRich and its in the 1500 gallon pool, last time I was there anyways, he is bigger now, I would say over 40".
