Assassin snails probably wouldn't over populate the tank however they wouldn't solve your algae problems either. A few common causes of excessive algae are - too much direct sunlight ( lights on or off) , Bulbs older than 1 year, poor water quality due to excessive amounts of ammonia/nitrate, poor water circulation ,too much leftover food or un-cycled tanks. Piranha usually don't play nice with other fishes.

Well, I have oodles of convicts, 2 yo yo loaches (I killed one on accadent) and still the piranha ate my pleco when I tried adding one of those in. I shoved the pleco into a decoration after I fed everyone and they still were guarding it until its eventual death.

After I move here in a few weeks im going to try quanity vs quality since small common plecos are $1 right now. I'm hopeful between the move and quanity that one or two will survive. If not I'm only out a few bucks compared to the last one.

Why are you wanting to add plecos anyways?

best way to get rid of algae is to keep your water clean, i never had a pleco in my tank until recently and i never have algae issues because i keep my water in check and dont overfeed, common plecos escpecially are very inefficient algae eaters and have to have their diets supplemented with algae wafers and veggies and a 75g is too small for a grown common IMO, just do more water changes or feed less and cut the amount of time your lights are on to a couple hours

umm id suggest taking the piranha out, and rearranging the whole tank. After you rearranged everything, put the pleco in the tank and then add the piranhas. When they're all in the tank you can chase them around and scare them if you want also. They will have to set up new territories and hopefully leave the pleco alone. Then again i dont own piranhas but that works with my cichlids.

idk my 14 in pleco is a beast tank stays clean never bought him wafers had him since 2.5 inches in my original 20 now almost 2.5 years and he still doin his thing he does eat my cichlids pellets doe lmoa
