My Planiceps Journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Week 4: Here are some updated pics. I'd say the biggest one is pushing 6" and the smallest one has caught up in size in the past week or so and is closer to the 3 larger ones. I haven't had a chance to move them to the new tanks yet because I'm busy setting everything up still. I tried to get a overhead shot also for those that wanted to compare how their pectoral fins were changing. Enjoy!

Not just them but with other large shovelnose like my Piraiba, TSN, Tig, and Juruense.

For comparison on their growth rate, here is a picture of one that ate a small feeder guppy when I first got them. Sorry about the hella water spots. You can tell how much they've grown compared to the rosy reds which are dwarfed by the Planiceps now.

Unrelated but also noteworthy, I've noticed that unlike my other shovelnose species, at night the Planiceps change colors a decent amount. They blend to a beige/white belly completely instead of just the white lateral stripe. I'll see if I can get some pics of it later on.

Hi Amazon

Do you keep the following together?

Piraiba, TSN, Tig, and Juruense.

I have TSN, Tig , Goslinea & Jurense but all kept separately

At the moment the Piraiba isn't really sharing space with the others but only because its too small. It is in a mini quarantine tank inside my 240 (floating tank) My 12" Tig, 12" Juruense, 20" TSN and 14" TSN are sharing the same tank and then all 4 of my Planiceps are in a seperate tank and the Piraiba is about to join them in that tank now that I don't have to worry about him trying to eat another one of them since they are pushing 7" and the Piraiba is maybe 5"
