my plywood tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
okay, FINALLY got this in my house today...now I can get to work and (hopefully) have it done by the end of the year! :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: All that is left is getting the glass in the extra supports, and getting the silicone in the corners, I just didn't want to do that while it was so cold. I also had no idea how large this would actually be IN the house! For some reason it just seems so much larger inside than it did outside and now I need a bigger house :headbang2but it looks pretty good sitting here, just wish it was sitting here full of water...

future stocking plans will most likely not involve catfish now, as ALL of my cats have come down with ick and some wickedly evil bacterial/fungus thing, there are still some that may pull out of it, but it's not looking good at this point...pics to come in a min...

still needs some work, but it's turning out pretty nicely I think...now I'm just nervous about it holding water....
:nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly:

a little trim and glass and we'll be good to go (looks wise, still a lot to do to get it up and running after that)

it's going to be from an old 55, that's why it's in two parts, I just have to get it trimed up a bit at the glass shop....

Has anyone else coated both the inside and outside with some sort of waterproof coating? I was told by someone who's been doing the plywood tanks for years that you don't want to do it b/c the epoxy does 'leak' a tiny bit, and having the wood coated on the outside doesn't allow it breath, essentially rotting it from the inside out.

Just a thought as I'm in the process of a DIY tank, but used 3/4 spruce ply instead, and Aquapon from Pittsburg Paints (PPG) on the inside.

we didn't use epoxy on our tank...drylok on hardi board on the inside and drylok and polyurethane on the outside...I was worried about it getting wet and warping or something to that effect, so everything that isn't touching the inside of the tank/sump has been coated to the MAX in poly, just to be careful...
