what size tank is it? filter? what kind of lighting? fish?

Thanks for the compliments!! Please see this thread I started a couple of days ago. It outlines what equipment I have thus far.

Tank dimensions are: 48.5"L, 31.5"T, 13.5"D

I plan this to be a planted tank. I am almost as excited about the live plants as I am the fish.

Wife and I both wish for smaller fish, small schools perhaps. We really dont know as of yet. I am trying to learn all I can with respect to plant/fish compatibility.

I know a discus or two is our dream, but we may work up to that after some time.

I like the Bala Shark. I have learned that tin foil barbs are a nono for live plants. I understand there are other barbs that are not so bad. Not sure about cichlid's(sp?). They seem to be a species-by-itself application, but I am probably wrong. Gourami's seem pretty mellow. Of course we both love Angels..

We'll see. Any suggestions??

Thanks

Update: tank is now 40% full---its been filling since 10pm last night:)

I don't like bala. They get big and they're skittish. Which means eventually they spaz out and smash into the glass and die. You seem to have a higher budget than I do so I recommend you look into Denison Barb(Puntius denisonii) as a substitute. They have them at the Shark Aquarium and they're gorgous.

For you because of what you seem to like I'd say start off with a couple of dwarf gourami. A pair of regular or blue dwarf and a pair of honey dwarf. Then add the angels.

German Blue Rams are difficult to keep, but in a planted tank with angels... wow.

Wednesday am update: Still filling with the slow but sure reverse osmosis water source. I have posted an image of the current water level. Please forgive the images as they were taken early this morning in COMPLETE darkness:screwy:

Also, we have positioned our rocks and bottom features. I am sure they will get moved around once we get the tank full and the lights on. This has been the hardest thing thus far in setting up a new tank: what and where to decorate the bottom of the tank!!

xP3 filter is assembled, primed and was test run for a few hours last night. It is pretty quiet!

Altums, apistos, a whole swarm of dwarf cories (I love the way they move in groups), whiptail cats, some congo tets, etc
