wow 50 + fry thats great!! I wish mine would spawn, the male is trying so hard to no avail yet.... I am thinking of putting them in a 30 gal by themselves to get them to mabye that would work...
that may be the answer for you... i put my big stud venustus in the 125gal with all the girls.. and zilch so far... too many distractions and too many other fish.. actually this is good for me right now... because i don't want any more babies... i still have my filter babies growing up and now the red fins... which will probably add up to another 50 fry when the other female spits... :grinno::nilly:

I hear ya!! I need to slow down the breeding in my 125 It's getting out of hand 2 ob peacock females just had 75+ fry each 2 weeks ago and now they are both holding again and same thing is happening w my kenyis, melonochromis auratus, electric yellows, red zebras, and rubys they are always breeding at least once a month... we have over 700 cichlids currently so It is time to open a fish store lol seriously though we are gonna seperate our males and females just waiting on another tank ;) can't help it though bc once the female is holdding we do not have the heart to leave her holding in the tank for fear she might starve herself to protect them wchich has happened in the past so we just always strip them... and with the changes in weather around here they are always in breeding mode I think they all have spring fever :naughty:

holy thats alot of babies...and alot of cichlids in general:D Does the LFS take some from you ?... i will sell some of these privately and to a huge LFS store that sells only pure africans.. i am so mad right now... i feed my big clown knife massivore pellets.. and he ate one and so i sent two more down to him.. the fuellerborni raced over and swept both of them into his mouth... i usually never have this problem because i feed him on the other side... now i will be freaking out that he will get bloat.. i cannot believe i messed up..

Don't worry Liz, I'm sure he will be fine the bloat is really caused more by stress and constant over feeding or poor diet and water quality, and not from just a one time overfeeding ;)
My nearest LFS will take some but we haven't had time to go around to other lfs and see if they will take some plus I have a hard time parting w my cichlids they are all so lovely! :D

No worries ;) how big is the bad boy Richard?? He is in with clown knife? what else si in there?? I have aquired a couple of africans from a friend who needed to house them and I have them in with my CK, TSN, and oscar for now they seem to be doing ok theres also a couple sunfish in there as well so its sort of interesting to have cichlids from 3 different continents in the same tank... not something I'd usually do but it is kinda cool at the moment they are like 8 in africans though  so I dont want to put them in with my 5 in community african tank ya know..

Richard is about 6 inches.. here is his pic..smiling Richard... lol.. the only one i would be concerned about in that mix long term is the TSN.. they eat everything sooner or later.. the 16 inch clown knife is in with 5 angels.. Richard and three severums and a common pleco.. never had a problem in 2.5 years..From the time the clown was 4 inches he only ate prepared foods.. i think that makes all the difference..View attachment 364610 i also have a green terror living with africans for the last four years.. sometimes things just work out.. just like you..not fond of doing it.. but sometimes i have to try different things to give each fish a peaceful existance.. sometimes peculiar is better..
