All kidding aside (camshaftramrod, I liked yours the best :D ), what are your water parameters? Using carbon to get rid of the smell is just covering up the real source, this is why I will never use carbon unless getting rid of a medication.

Sounds to me like a water quality problem because i have spilled obnoxious amounts of fish water onto carpet floors and never had a problem with smell.

After we get your parameters, providing they are in check, take a damp cloth and clean underneath the plastic rim on the inside of the tank. You know, the part that overhangs the water... I had an interesting (that is the only was I can describe it) smell on one of my tanks and cleaning that off was the only thing that could fix it.

Next, if the above doesnt work, I would suggest getting some of that pet odor, vacuum up baking soda (or just regular baking soda... this stuff smells better) and sprinkle it around the carpet, making sure to vacuum thoroughly.

Next is the fabrics, if the carpet is not the problem, wash anything that can be washed and everything else needs to be smelled.

Last, but not least, if none of the above work to rid your room of the odor, look in vents, behind the stand, etc for anything that could be causing an odor.
I have had food stuck on that rim and it did smell. That could be it. Thinking about it now I think the guy just said it because you have a cat and he probably doesn't I have a hairless sphynx and while I dont smell a thing (Thank you brand new Dyson vacuum the eheim of vacuums) Some people mention it but I keep my corgi and my sphynx very very clean and vacuum the whole house every other day.

yah no more bed wetting jokes i feel like im talking to a bunch of 10 year olds.
thank u to all of you who gave good advice and didn't waste my time or space on this thread.

thanks guys
Also if you go through all the steps and it still smells and there is no window. Try a cheap through the wall ventilation fan or a typical bathroom fan on a timer that will help with humidity and odor tremendously.

if you have cats thats what it is

i have a cat, its not the cat!!! i know what cat piss smells like, the smell is not as bad as my cats litter box. the smell was more earthy. anyways the smell is gone now i cleaned my glass lid and started burning coconut oil. problem solved.

thanks everyone!

this thread is finished, problem solved, it was a dirty lid and no ventilation in my room that caused the problem. my animals are house broken by the way:D

lol sorry to start up your thread again but i didnt want to derail that other guys anymore. you dont accept PM's so i'll post it here. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224391&highlight=sump
i was looking at this DIY and i wanted to see if i can make a setup like his first picture. looke easy to remove the filters for cleaning. and do a few touch ups. with the fish you have you might want to consider it. i dont have any experience but all i know that i will need is acrylic(which i can get these free), hose or pvc, various fittings, silicone, scrubbies(or other for bio), eggcrate and a suitable pump(2 pumps for my 280g).
