Okay, so I have more time to reply.

I hate the salt water hobby. I hate having a 32 gallon aquarium. I hate mixing the water and having all of this equipment. I bought the nicer RO/DI system and do everything by the book and I've read over and over and over how to keep diatoms at bay and I'M STILL having major issues. I do a massive once a week water change. I have a huge cleaning crew. I keep the nutrients low.

Back to what I hate. I hate checking a MILLION LEVELS. I just hate every single part of this part of the hobby. I hated it last time when I had the absolute bare bones of a system and I hate it now it everything you could possibly buy for the system. I'm selling off every fish related item I have and I'm going to get back to the basics.

End rant. . . ..

I'm going to go back freshwater when I sell all of this saltwater equipment. Going to take a little break and start all fresh. Maybe try to find a way to make no substrate look good. I hate that too lol....

Oh man. Well you can make it as complicated or easy as you want. Salt is still going to need more work, always testing something. As for diatoms they should pretty much go away once the cycle is over, which is usually indicated by the arrival of diatoms. Silicates if very high can cause diatoms also.
I wish I had some magic cure or answer for you, I dont. It's alot of work. Sorry. But on the bright side we are happy to have you back with "us". Your coming to the poly side right!

I starting reading this thread from start to finish earlier today. I have always been drawn to try a small saltwater out for a change but have always just stuck with freshwater. This thread was a truly a great read as each new addition to your tank was exciting. Then you drop this bombshell of an update that totally crushed my hopes :) I knew I should have stopped at page 12. Kidding, thanks for sharing and if I too end up venturing into ocean waters soon I'll create a thread to share the journey.

Don't let that update scare you off. I should have known better after the 1st attempt at salt. I said I'd NEVER try salt again and I did. You may love it and never do fresh water again. Don't let my bad experience sway you.

I have $1,045 in saltwater not counting the fish. It's a 32 gallon aquarium. LOL...

Just fyi I have it up on my local trade website for $500 OBO for everything. Even throwing in two huge brute tubs with rollers, 100ft python, and loads of other misc things. No bites yet...
